DIPLOMA IN WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

The course takes into account the emerging challenges in wildlife conservation and management such as community participation, trade in endangered species, species versus ecosystem conservation concepts, transboundary conservation issues and the role of environmental impact assessment in wildlife conservation, impact of climate change on wildlife resources, eco-tourism, sustainable wildlife utilization and human wildlife conflict management among others. This course also allows the trainee to progress in further training.
The Diploma in wildlife management course consists of competencies that an individual ought to achieve to provide wildlife conservation and management services. This involves applying principles of ecology, wildlife conservation and management, bio-geography, wilderness survival techniques, wildlife behaviour, and wildlife health and disease. Successful candidates can provide services in the field of ichthyology, herpetology, ornithology, mammology, arthropodology, plant taxonomy, wildlife research, taxidermy and museum techniques.
In addition, it involves the managing wildlife habitats, wildlife populations, environmental impacts, protected areas, human-wildlife interactions, wildlife utilization and wildlife conservation projects.
The course duration is 18 months with three months of field/Industrial attachment in either a National park, National Reserve, County managed reserve, community conservancies, private conservancies or any other wildlife managed area.

Entrepreneurship, communication skills, Information Communication Technology and Life skills have been integrated in order to allow graduates of this course to be self-reliant, responsible and productive members of society
