The diploma in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences course is designed to produce middle level Fisheries Extension officers and Fisher Gear Technicians. The officers should effectively address fisheries issues at local and national levels. The course inculcates knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable management of fisheries resources within the natural and aquaculture ecosystem. The course is a broad-based interdisciplinary field covering aspects sustainable fisheries management placing emphasis on ecological issues, research and data analysis, fish health and production, protection and restoration of ecosystems, legal and policy compliances. The safety and survival skills in the wilderness is also included to enable the trainees cope with occupational risks and hazards.
